STORY SYNOPSIS

When the U.S.S. Enterprise receives a top-priority order to protect a shipment of quadrotriticale grain on Deep Space Station K-7, Kirk is irritated to be guarding a shipment of "wheat." But the shipment is meant for famine-struck Sherman's Planet, and Klingons are taking shore leave on the space station. Adding to Kirk's irritation is Federation Undersecretary for Agriculture, Nilz Baris, and his pesky assistant, Arne Darvin, who inform Kirk that Starfleet Command is afraid the Klingons may try to steal the grain.

Another problem arises when a space trader, Cyrano Jones, gives Uhura a purring ball of fluff known as a tribble. Charmed by the creature, Uhura takes it back to the Enterprise. However, as McCoy soon learns, tribbles are born pregnant and the more they eat ... and they eat constantly ... the more they multiply. Soon the starship is overrun by the furry creatures.

Kirk soon finds that the bins that were once full of the precious quadrotriticale are now full of dead tribbles. The grain has been poisoned by a Klingon agent disguised as the Undersecretary's assistant, Darvin.  His true identity is exposed when Kirk discovers that tribbles don't like Klingons (and vice-versa) and squeak whenever they're in near proximity. The Klingons leave the space station and Scotty rids the Enterprise of the tribbles by beaming them aboard the departing Klingon ship where, as he tells Kirk, " ... they'll be no tribble at all."

(7) Quadrotriticale ----------- 17.8 KB
Captain Kirk

(8) Canada ------------------ 35.6 KB
Mr. Spock - Captain Kirk

The only time Canada is mentioned in classic Trek.
It's a shame, too, because we provided Trek
with two great characters: William Shatner who
played Captain Kirk and James Doohan who played Scotty.

(9) Wheat ------------------- 10.2 KB
Captain Kirk

Look out, the captain sounds angry!

(10) Project ----------------- 32.8 KB
Nilz Baris - Captain Kirk

Kirk could get into a lot of trouble saying
things like this, but that's one of the things
that makes him a great captain.

Can you picture another famous Enterprise
captain saying something like this to a
Federation representative??

Me neither.

(Yes, I know it's only a TV show)

(11) Shop ------------------- 18.0 KB
Captain Kirk - Lt. Uhura - Mr. Chekov

So Chekov and Uhura are going shopping...
Then what are they doing in a bar???

Oh... taking a break from shopping!

(12) Inwention --------------- 38.1 KB
Captain Kirk - Mr. Chekov

Chekov gets several good lines in this episode.
Poor Kirk... he sounds so 'left out.'

Yes, I spelled 'invention' with a "w" on purpose.

(15) Sample ----------------- 25.2 KB
Cyrano Jones - Lt. Uhura

(16) Luxury ------------------ 27.9 KB
Captain Koloth

I don't care for William Campbell's Koloth.
He just doesn't seem mean enough to be a Klingon.
Incidentally, this is the same actor that played
Trelane in 'The Squire of Gothos.'

He did a wonderful job as Trelane!

(17) Recreation -------------- 16.8 KB
Korax

Now THIS guy makes a convincing Klingon!!

Scotty - Mr. Chekov

Chekov gets several one-liners in this episode.
It's probably one of his best episodes!

I think Korax has had a bit too much to drink!

Even Spock gets some humorous dialogue!

(54) Hard -------------------- 13.7 KB
Cyrano Jones - Captain Kirk - Mr. Spock

(55) Tribbles ---------------- 196.0 KB
Captain Kirk - Dr. McCoy - Scotty - Mr. Spock

A very funny ending to a fantastic episode!

One thing bothers me though....
Scotty was appalled by Kirk thinking that he'd
transported the tribbles into open space (killing them)
because, as he said, "That would be inhuman!"
but if you think about it, what Scotty did do was just as bad.

Scotty transported the tribbles over to the Klingon ship
and since tribbles hate Klingons and vice versa,
what do you think the Klingons are going to DO with
the tribbles??  They'll kill them of course!!
So it ends up being the same thing.

(Yes, I know it's only a TV show)
