In
2285 Admiral James T. Kirk commandeered the U.S.S. Enterprise, taking
it to the Mutara Sector in an effort to recover the body of Captain
Spock from the Genisis Planet so that it could be returned to the
planet Vulcan. It was during this unauthorized mission that
Admiral Kirk ordered the destruction of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701
to prevent the ship from falling into Klingon hands.
