Just who is this self-proclaimed "Trekkieguy"
anyway? Well, just in case you're curious about who created this website,
I thought I'd include an information page with a little bit about me.
First of all, let me say
Thank you for visiting my website. It's been a long process getting
it to the point it's at now but it's been worth it. I hope you're
enjoying the sound WAVs, book reviews and all the other stuff that's here.
Anyway,
a bit about me . . . My name is Jeff, I'm 52 years old (yes, that's an old
picture of me)
and I live in Taber, Alberta Canada. And in case you care, it's
pronounced: TAY-ber.
Here's
a couple of maps so you can get a better understanding of where Taber is.
The first map is North America and the second map is just Canada:
I've been a Star Trek fan for
longer than I can remember with my main interest being the original series.
I enjoy the other series as well but the original will always be number
one in my book. Yes, the special effects look cheesy by today's standards,
but it was ground-breaking stuff back in the '60's and considering they
made the show with an extremely small budget, I think it holds up pretty
well. Besides, it was the actors and the quality of the stories that
made the show special, not the effects.
Anyway, I've had the
pleasure of attending many Star Trek conventions over the years and have
met all the original cast except for Grace Lee Whitney. I even got
the chance to meet Gene Roddenberry in Spokane, WA. back in 1986 (which was
my first convention.)
I met Majel Barrett
at the same convention in a rather unique way: I was a bit late getting
to the ballroom for one of the events so when I entered the room, not wanting
to cause a disturbance, I sat down on the closest empty seat to the door.
After getting settled in my seat I glanced to my left to see who I was sitting
next to and to my surprise it was Majel Barrett Roddenberry! After
the event we talked for a bit and I got an autograph and a picture of the
two of us together!
I've been to a lot
of conventions since then, meeting William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy in
Seattle WA., DeForest Kelley in Spokane, WA., George Takei and James Doohan
in Edmonton, AB. and Walter Koenig in Calgary, AB. I've also met several
cast members from the other Trek series' as well.
I do have other interests
besides Star Trek. Being Canadian, I'm an avid hockey fan with my
favorite teams being the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Calgary Flames.
I also enjoy photography, hiking, camping, downhill skiing, rollerblading,
golf and building WWII models.
Of course, computers
are another interest of mine. I first learned about computers at school
in the mid 80's on an Apple ][ and have owned a few different computers
over the years such as a Sinclair ZX81, a Timex Sinclair 2068, an Atari
130 XE, and even a Radio Shack computer! (What can I say - it was the 80's!).
Starting in the 90's I've owned a Packard Bell 133 MHz computer (16 MB
of RAM with a 1 GB hard drive [Woohoo!]). From there I bought a Hewlett
Packard 933 MHz computer (256 MB RAM with a 40 GB hard drive), and a Hewlett
Packard 3.1 GHz computer with 3 GB of RAM and a 200 GB hard drive running
Windows XP Media Edition, an HP Pavilion P6310F Quad Core 2.8 GHz machine
running Windows 7 with 6 GB RAM and a 1 TB hard drive with 2 external hard
drives (1.5 TB) for a total of 2.5 TB of memory.
I recently had a computer crash (October 2016) so now I own an Acer
AXC-603-EB11 Desktop with an Intel Pentium J2900 2.41GHz processor, 8GB
DDR3 RAM, 1 TB hard drive with an external 2 TB hard drive running Windows
10 64 Bit.
Update
July 2018: I recentlly bought a new computer! I now have an HP Pavillion
3.5 GHz, quad core 590-p0029 desktop computer running Windows 10. It has
a 1TB hard drive and I also have a 2TB external hard drive for backups.
Thank you for your interest in my
website. I hope you'll bookmark the site and return often. If
you'd like to send me an email I'd love to hear from you. You can ask
me a question, compliment (or criticize!) the site, request a sound file
or even just say hello. I'll do my best to get back to you as soon
as possible, but please remember I do work during the day so don't get discouraged
if you don't get a response right away. Thank you very much!
